Just found out tonight, and I apologise if its old news, but there is a by law now on Coillte property banning any dogs on the restricted breed list. Don't know how long its been on the books, but it is dated 2009.

I've heard about it but I'd like to see them try and enforce it.

Ridiculous. Well, if their attempts at enforcing the use of those scrambler motorbikes on their lands are anything to go by, I can't imagine they will be successful at this either.

Not to mention the goat hunters they employ. I got shot at by a group of them last year!

I must warn a friend- she has a Great Dane Mastiff X and her propery boarders a Coillte forest- that they recently cut down- her dog loves to wander around there with her kids but would think it's safe enough as it's very remote...but will warn her all the same!

No, but Mastiffs of the Bull Mastiff variety are:

The relevant byelaw is in section 14 of the pdf above.

I rang Coillte about this, and the receptionist said I'd have to contact the forest manager for the relevant site as it was on a site by site basis, and she couldn't put me through to anyone in the office. I then spoke to the forest manager for one of the sites who said a. he'd much prefer if people just kept their dogs under control, b. he'd not had any communication from Coillte in terms of the new byelaw and enforcing it.

Oh well done, didn't think of phoning them. hidesbehindsofa.gif

Well thats good news that its site by site. We are having to speak to each individual manager to get permission to run the dogs with scooters, and none of them have mentioned anything about this to us, so hopefully it won't have a detrimental effect.
