Animal name/reference number: Benji

Sex: Male

Located: Dundalk Pound

If in pound is stray/surrender: Surrender

Needs help/out by date: NOW

General comments: Poor Benji is in as one of his owners has just passed away and the other have been put into care as he's not fit to look after himself. Benji is from Clogherhead and known by all as he used to walk the beach and visit the coastguard. And he'd run home when he'd see the wardens van. He's very friendly.

Oh no! I know this dog very well, he is a constant feature on the beach at Clogher Head, and i'm very sad to hear his lovely owner has died.. she loved this old fella!

Benji isn't a spring chicken, but he has a gorgeous, gentle and playful attitude! He goes for walks with all his favourite local dog walkers every day, and digs like mad on the beach, chases a ball with glee, and is as steady as a rock around other dogs.

He's more of a collie X than a spaniel, but this fella would be a wonderful retirement companion for someone who prefers a dog bigger than a lapdog.

I'm so sorry and sad for this fella, he's had a good life an he mustn't know what has happened him now.

I know Maureen. Gerry was saying on Saturday what a character he was and swears that he knew the wardens' vans and ran back home to safety when they were around! He is a happy chap and although as you say not a young boy he still has plenty of life left in him. He must be sadly missing the beach.

Can anyone offer him a foster home pls? And a rescue place. He needs help urgently I would think.

And Benji has gone off to his home yesterday courtesy of Heathlands - to a retired couple after getting his bits and bobs done and his teeth cleaned. By the sound of it Benji has got very used to his comforts!
